All App Store submissions after February 1st must be optimized for iOS 7
Apple just sent out a notice to developers letting them know of some changes to the App Store coming in February next year. Starting February 1st, 2014, all new apps submitted to the App Store must be built with the latest version of Xcode 5 and optimized for iOS 7. This new policy will apply to all submissions — both new apps and app updates. What does this mean to the average user? Not too much as most app developers are adapting to latest version of iOS and have been working on updates since iOS 7 was introduced earlier this year. The biggest impact will be on abandoned apps that are only being minimally maintained by developers. You know these apps — they have an endless cycle of “bug fixes and improvements,” but no new features or major updates. Developers of these apps will be faced with a major decision — they can shutter their app and leave it on iOS 6 forever or put some effort into their app and update it with the new features and design elements in iOS 7.
Do you have any favorite apps that you are afraid will fall by the wayside when this new policy is implemented?
