How to save SHSH blobs for iOS 6.1

Every time there’s a new jailbreak, the same message is preached: Save your SHSH blobs! In fact, even when there is not a jailbreak, it’s a good practice to always save your SHSH blobs. These files are absolute must haves if there ever opens up the possibility to downgrade back to iOS 6.1 once newer firmware is released. If you don’t save your blobs for a specific firmware, then the possibility of ever being able to downgrade to that firmware is slim to none.
So please, be proactive. Save your SHSH blobs right now. That way, when Apple drops iOS 6.1.1, or whatever its next firmware will be called, you will already have your blobs saved. Apple has been quick about closing its firmware signing window as of late, so once the new firmware is released, it might be too late to save the iOS 6.1 blobs.
If you haven’t already done so, there’s no need to feel ashamed, but act now. Take a look at our easy to follow step-by-step walkthrough inside, and we’ll show you just how simple the process is.
Step 1: Download TinyUmbrella from our downloads page for your operating system of choice. This tutorial was done using a Mac, but the exact same principle and steps can be used on Windows and Linux machines.
Step 2: Save the TinyUmbrella download to your desktop, and double click that app icon to run. It may take a few seconds to fully initialize.
Step 3: Connect the device that you want to save your SHSH blobs for. This can be any iOS device like an iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch. You should do this for every device you own that can run iOS 6.1.
Step 4: In the upper left-hand corner of Tiny Umbrella, select your device under connected devices.
Step 5: Click the advanced tab, and uncheck the following two options:
  • Save ALL Available SHSH
  • Request SHSH From Cydia
Step 6: Change the save SHSH directory to an SHSH folder on your desktop, that way you can easily find, verify, and backup your SHSH blobs in a more familiar directory.
Step 7: Click the Log tab so that you can prepare to view the status of your save attempt.
Step 8: Now it’s time to actually save the blobs. Click on Save SHSH, and Tiny Umbrella will attempt to save the SHSH blobs for iOS 6.1 (or the latest iOS firmware that Apple is signing), and save it to the directory you selected in Step 6. You should receive a message that says SHSH SUCCESSFULLY SAVED if everything worked correctly.
Step 9: Open up the SHSH folder that you created on your desktop in Step 6, and verify that the SHSH blob for your device is there. Ensure that it is labeled with the correct device name, along with the proper firmware.
In the future, when Apple stops signing iOS 6.1, you can use this exact tutorial to save the current firmware that it is signing. This tutorial is geared towards saving the currently signed firmware only, thus it won’t retrieve previously saved SHSH blobs that Apple is no longer signing. If you wish to do that, you can keep the options that we unchecked in Step 5, checked.
I highly recommend that you backup the folder containing all of your SHSH blobs for all of your devices to something like Dropbox. That way, you can always find them when you need to use them.
Now you can rest easy knowing that if the need ever arrises for your to downgrade, you’ve done all that you can on your end to make sure that it is possible. Wasn’t that simple?

Can’t contain your excitement for the upcoming untethered iOS 6 jailbreak? We’ve seen the excitement and enthusiasm in the jailbreak community rising steadily in the last few weeks, eventually reaching boiling point yesterday when the Evad3rs team officially lifted the lid on the Evasi0n jailbreak. While we will need to exercise just a little more patience until we can get our hands on the public release of Evasi0n, the team have happily announced that things are progressing nicely for all the supported platforms.
The official Evasi0n website has been updated this morning to reflect the progress being made behind-the-scenes, as well as having the intention of keeping all potential users in the loop with the current status. At the time of writing the current status of the untethered was being classified as 68% complete, with Windows and OS X versions of the new jailbreak tool being complete and only the Linux variant to finish.

There’s been a great deal of discussion about the tool that will be released as the gateway to getting the Evasi0n untether onto our iOS devices, but it’s great to see that not only is it nearly complete but will also support the three major desktop platforms and open the jailbreak up to as many people as possible. As work on the Linux version of the software continues, so does the testing to ensure that there are no unexpected surprises or delays come launch day.
The additional good news is that the Windows and OS X versions of the tool are already likely involved in some closed doors private beta testing with a range of iOS devices and firmware versions. When the jailbreak eventually drops it will support twenty-two devices on all iterations of iOS 6.x meaning that thorough testing is a vital part of the pre-release schedule.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that testing of the jailbreak will be limited to extremely tightly controlled conditions, with only members of the Evad3rs team and tried and trusted affiliates getting access to the files and source prior to official release. As pointed out in our original announcement post yesterday, all of the devices that are shown on the Evasi0n website have their calendar icons set to show the number 3. As things stand at the minute we should still be in line for a Super Bowl Sunday release.

This is just in. The Evad3rs team have just announced Evasi0n, an iOS 6 / 6.1 untethered jailbreak tool for Windows, Mac and Linux. While the tool hasn’t been released yet, it is currently in final testing stages, and if a recent tweet of MuscleNerd is anything to go by,release is likely set for Sunday.
The announcement was made today on the official Twitter account of team Evad3rs, which consists of prominent iOS devs such as MuscleNerd, Pod2g, Planetbeing and Pimskeks.

Evasi0n will support all firmwares from iOS 6.0 through iOS 6.1, and will be compatible with following devices:
  • iPhone 5
  • iPhone 4S
  • iPhone 4
  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPad 4
  • iPad 3
  • iPad 2
  • iPad mini
  • iPod touch 5
  • iPod touch 4
  • Apple TV 2
The only device which is currently not supported is Apple TV 3.

According to the official website, Evasi0n, at minimum, will require a computer running Windows XP and over, OS X 10.5 and over, or Linux (x86 / x86_64).
5 minutes of your time!
A computer, running Windows (XP minimum), Mac OS X (10.5 minimum) or Linux (x86 / x86_64)
An iPhone, iPad or iPod running iOS 6.0 through 6.1 (you may check in Settings / General / About => Version)
A USB cable to connect the device to the computer
Even though all iOS 6.x firmwares (iOS 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.2 and 6.1) are said to be supported, it is highly recommended to update to the latest iOS 6.1 version via iTunes (you can download iOS 6.1 firmware from here), NOT OTA (over-the-air), to take full advantage of all the features the latest firmware has to offer, with the added benefits of the jailbreak.

We will obviously post a complete step-by-step tutorial along with a video walk-through on how to jailbreak your iPhone 5 and other supported devices – untethered – using Evasi0n, as soon as it is released! So stay tuned for that.
Oh and yes, those of you who are sporting older A4 and below devices (iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 4) can jailbreak iOS 6.1 tethered right now using Redsn0w.
UPDATE x1: Looks like there is a nice little Easter egg hidden on the official evasi0n.com website. If you notice the icon of Calendar app on all the devices, you will see a “3”, indicating that jailbreak will likely release on Sunday, February 3. (via @Pix3lDemon | Thanks to Alexander Bell for sending this in!)
UPDATE x2: Windows and Mac version of the tool are complete. Private beta testing is next.More details here.
