TypeTab lets you quickly enter the URL in new Safari tab [Jailbreak Tweak]

typeTab
Normally, when you tap on the ‘+’ button in Safari to open a new tab, you will be greeted with a default page that displays all your favorite and frequently visited webpages. TypeTab is a simple jailbreak tweak that lets you quickly enter an address in Safari when a new tab is launched.
The tweak automatically places a typing cursor in the address bar and launches the keyboard whenever a new tab is opened in Safari allowing you to quickly enter your search or URL without doing it manually. Not only this but the tweak also works when you launch the app and the default page is opened.
This will definitely save you some work as most of the times, you’ll want to enter an address after launching a new Safari tab rather than choose a favorite or frequently visited page.
After installing TypeTab, you can get started without configuring the tweak. Simply launch a new tab in Safari and you’ll notice that the tweak automatically inserts a cursor into the address bar and launches the keyboard to type in the search term or URL.
If you frequently browse the web using iOS Safari, you’ll appreciate the little feature offered by TypeTab. The developer also mentions that the tweak is compatible with both iPhone and iPad and if you have an external Bluetooth keyboard attached to your iOS device, TypeTab will work well with the keyboard shortcut that opens a new tab in mobile Safari.
To get your hands on the tweak, TypeTab can be download for free via Cydia’s BigBoss repo.

The Battery of Apple Watch can be replaced

“Well, when it comes to the battery at least, owners of Apple Watch will be able to extend its lifespan,” TechCrunch reports. “An Apple spokesman confirmed to TechCrunch the “battery is replaceable”.”

The question that remains is how you’ll get it replaced. We’re almost certain Apple won’t make it easy for users to do it themselves, so it will likely require a trip to the Genius Bar — and presumably you’ll need to pay for it if the device is more than a year old.
TechCrunch has asked Apple for clarification — and whether other components can be replaced or upgraded — but the company is yet to respond.
Nevertheless, it’s good to know that the Apple Watch’s battery can be replaced if necessary. While some may upgrade their wearable on a regular basis, many others won’t want to spend $349+ on a new Watch every year, in which case replacing an aging battery will be important.
A healthy Apple Watch battery should provide up to 18 hours of “mixed usage” in between charges. Apple says that’s roughly “90 time checks, 90 notifications, 45 minutes of app use, and a 30-minute workout with music playback from Apple Watch via Bluetooth.”
Even if you use the device heavily, then, it should at least get you through your work day and into the evening hours before it needs recharging, but you’ll need to be careful about how you use the heart rate monitor, which appears to be one of its biggest battery drains.
Keep the heart rate monitor on while you’re working out and usage will drop to around 7 hours. Constant music playback will get you just 6.5 hours of use, and taking phone calls on the Watch itself drops battery life to just 3 hours.
Apple Watch will also have a Power Reserve mode, which can provide up to 72 hours of use on a full charge, but this restricts the device’s features so that it’s really only good for telling the time.

How to replace the stock Clock app icon with a digital clock icon

Digital Clock Icon Top
Digital Clock Icon is a new jailbreak tweak that does one thing: it changes the stock analog Clock app icon to that of a digital clock. But that’s not all. Along with the digital clock, you get an altimeter and a date reading. Digital Clock Icon may be a simple jailbreak tweak, but given its looks and feature-set, it’s sure to find users who value what it brings to the table.
See the video by idownloadblog:
Once you install the tweak, there are no options to setup or configure. In fact, there isn’t even a preference panel for the tweak to be found in the stock Settings app.
After respringing post installation, you’ll notice that the stock analog clock has been replaced with a clock of the digital variety. Above the clock’s time readout, you’ll find a current date reading—a feature that’s handy for those of you who choose to remove the stock Calendar app icon from the Home screen.
Oddly enough, you’ll also find a digital altimeter below the time readout. The altimeter reads the current altitude of your iPhone, and presents a readout to correspond to its current height. It’s a real-working meter, as you can see from our tests in the video above.
Digital Clock Icon may seem simple in nature, but I think it has enough features to warrant a strong look. Especially since it’s a free jailbreak tweak on the BigBoss repo.
Would you consider using it?

Apple’s March 9 ‘Spring Forward’ event: What to Expect

image Spring forward live stream
In less than 72 hours from now, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook along with other high-profile executives will be taking the stage at the company’s ‘Spring Forward’ event in Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, California to unveil the Apple Watch and possibly a few other new devices as well.
Rumors and reports over the last few months have given us a good indicator of what to expect at Apple’s ‘Spring Forward’ event, and below, we round up them up so see what Apple has in store for us this Monday.

Definitely: Apple Watch

image Apple Watch live
There is absolutely no doubt that the Apple Watch is going to be the highlight of the company’s Spring Forward event. Apple had originally unveiled the Watch back in September last year, and has since worked on improving every aspect of it to make it ready for its public debut.
Apple considers the Watch more than just a smart watch: it considers it to be a fashion statement. This can be seen from the numerous appearances of the watch in various fashion magazines over the last few months. The abundance of customization options offered by Apple also make the smart watch a perfect fashion accessory for many as users can customize it to suit their style.
Despite being a fashion accessory, Apple has laid great emphasis on the build quality of the Apple Watch as well. As Jony Ive recently revealed in an interview with the Financial Times, the Apple Watch Edition is made from gold that is up to twice as strong as standard gold, while the cold-forged steel being 40% more durable than normal steel.
While reports have already given us a good idea of all the health-related features that the Apple Watch will pack, we still don’t know how they work, and other features that it will pack. A report from yesterday did reveal some details about how several features of the Watch will work and also confirmed the presence of the handy Power Reserve mode.
Apple executives have repeatedly said that the Apple Watch will only offer one-day of battery life, but a report from yesterday claims that the Watch’s battery life has improved, and that it takes only two hours to charge.
Besides the various features and apps of the Watch, the final retail price of its different variants and bands are also unknown. Plus, no one really knows when the Apple Watch will really ship, and the countries that it will go up on sale after its launch.
Along with the Apple Watch, the Cupertino company is also expected to announce a refresh of its retail stores to offer a better buying experience for the Apple Watch. Even if it does not though, the Apple Store revamp will go live once the Apple Watch goes on sale. The new redesign is being worked on by Apple’s Senior Vice President of Retail and Online Sales, Angela Ahrendts and Jony Ive.
Expect Apple to solve these mysteries and throw some surprises our way about the Apple Watch during their event on Monday.

Definitely: iOS 8.2

iOS 8.2 logo
Apple is also expected to unveil iOS 8.2 at the event, which will be adding Bluetooth support for the Apple Watch to the iPhone and iPad. It also comes with WatchKit support, the developer SDK of the Apple Watch.
The upcoming release of iOS is also aimed at fixing quite a few bugs and further improve the Health app by adding new data types like Glucose tracking to it as revealed by its leaked release notes from earlier this week. Apple had seeded the final beta of the upcoming version of iOS to developers earlier this week.

Likely: Updated MacBook Air with Broadwell processors

MacBook Air
Late last year, Intel finally started shipping its much-delayed Broadwell processors, which offer significant power savings, a faster GPU and more. These new CPUs are based on the 14nm fabrication process and consume less power than their predecessor. They also offer a significantly faster GPU and have been optimized for use in ultrabooks, which makes them perfect for Apple’s MacBook Air lineup of laptops.
Apple had last refreshed its Air lineup with updated processors more than 8 months ago, and with Intel’s latest generation processors now available in the market, now is as good as any for Apple to refresh the MacBook Airs’ with the latest CPUs from Intel.
Various leaks have also confirmed that updated variants of the 13-inch MacBook Air with Broadwell processors are indeed real, and it is more than likely that Apple will announce them at its ‘Spring Forward’ event on Monday, though without throwing much spotlight on them. Even if it does not, the company may just silently release the updated models after its Spring Forward event.

Not Happening: iPad Pro & Apple TV

image iPad Pro rendering
While there have been plenty of rumors about Apple planning to unveil the 12.9-inch iPad Pro during the first quarter of this year, recent reports suggest that the company has had to postpone the launch to later this year due to due to poor display yield issues.
As things stand now, the iPad Pro has only existed in rumors, and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. If Apple does intend to launch an iPad Pro, it is possible that the company will launch it alongside the iPad Air 3 and the iPad mini 4 in Q4 later this year.
The same thing stands true for Apple’s “hobby project” — the Apple TV. The device is soon going to be three years old, and is in dire need of an update. Knowing Apple though, there is a possibility that the company is holding back on a possible hardware refresh for the Apple TV because it wants to release it alongside a major software update.

12-inch MacBook Air

12-inch MacBook Air photos leak
There is no denying the fact that the MacBook Air, which was once the epitome of ultra-portable laptops, seems outdated when pitted against recent offerings from Dell, Lenovo and HP. While the Air still comes with a sub-standard 1440*900 resolution screen, Dell and Lenovo offer ultra-portables that feature Ultra HD (3840 x 2160) resolution. They also offer better performance and battery life in a body that is thinner and lighter than the MacBook Air.
Apple’s answer to them seems to be the rumored 12-inch MacBook Air that has made quite a few appearances in blurrycam photos. From the leaked images, the 12-inch MacBook Air seems to be an impressive laptop. Just like the recently unveiled Dell XPS 13, the 12-inch MacBook Air could come with an edge-to-edge display that allow it to sport a 12-inch screen inside a body that is smaller than even the existing 11-inch MacBook Air. It is also thinner than the current gen Air and comes with the next-gen USB Type-C connector.
My bet is that Apple will not be unveiling the 12-inch MacBook Air, as doing so will steal the spotlight from the Apple Watch. I’d guess Apple is prepping to unveil the 12-inch MacBook Air at WWDC later this year, though it is possible that the Cupertino company does a ‘one more thing’ at its Spring Forward event on March 9th and surprises everyone with the new Air. After all, even the Wall Street Journal seems to think so.

Do you expect Apple to unveil anything else beside the Apple Watch at its Spring Forward event on Monday?

Apple Watch won’t receive notifications when it’s not on your wrist, takes two hours to charge

image Apple Watch live2
The Apple Watch has already debuted, but that’s not stopping Apple from taking the stage at another event on March 9 to show it off again.
Of course, at an event all about the Apple Watch, we’re likely to see plenty of new features and finally get all the details we’ve been waiting for since the wearable’s unveiling in 2014. Leading up to that event, though, some interesting information is coming to light, including that the Watch’s battery should last around five hours with heavy app usage.
Now, according to a piece put together by TechCrunch, a few more features have managed to find their way to the surface.
According to the individuals sourced in the piece, the Watch has one really interesting feature when it comes to notifications, and that’s that they won’t always be piling onto your wearable. The Watch is meant to give you access to something immediately, and let you miss things when you want. For example, and probably the most interesting new piece of information, is that when the Watch is not on your wrist and locked in place, it won’t receive notifications.
So while the Watch is on its cradle charging, or otherwise off your wrist, it won’t keep constantly buzzing or beeping, which is probably good news for many potential buyers. On top of that, when it hits a certain percentage of battery remaining, the notifications will automatically stop coming in. The piece also states that the Watch will only take a couple of hours to charge, and still offer all-day battery life.
Here’s a tidbit you might not know — in order to receive notifications from apps, the Watch must be on your wrist and locked. They require contact with your skin. There will be no in-app dropdown notifications or constant pinging while it’s off your wrist. Push notifications also cease when the battery reaches 10 percent. Those decisions speak to the care with which Apple is handling notifications.
Work has apparently continued on the Watch’s Digital Crown as well, aiming to make it feel more premium on the device. According to the article, users who have been testing out the Crown have been pleasantly surprised by its usefulness, especially when calling up Siri and other specific functions.

IPHONE 6 VS SAMSUNG GALAXY S6 COMPARISON

Let's take a look at how the Samsung Galaxy S6 stacks up against Apple’s iPhone 6.
iPhone 6 vs Samsung Galaxy S6
Samsung officially unveiled the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge at its Unpacked event at the Mobile World Congress 2015 in Barcelona, to take on Apple’s iPhone 6, which has been grabbing smartphone market share ever since its launch in September.
Samsung has certainly raised its game with the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge with an all-new design. The front still has a familiar look and feel to it, but the metal frame with the shiny bezel, and glass back panel instead of using cheap-feeling plastics that it has always been criticized for, makes them the most visually stunning devices Samsung has ever made.
Samsung Galaxy S6 - Gold
We have mocked Samsung for blatantly copying the bottom section of the device (the speaker grille and the antenna bands), but sometimes you get the feeling that the company is just trying to troll Apple fanboys, as it just doesn’t make sense that a company that has improved upon the Galaxy S5’s design in such a dramatic way, would end up copying design elements from a device made by its arch rival, who has successfully sued them for billions of dollars. At the end of the day, if you’re looking for a smartphone, it shouldn’t really matter if a device is inspired by another device.
Samsung Galaxy S6 copies iPhone 6
Samsung hasn’t just focussed on design, it has also ticked quite a few boxes where the iPhone 6 falls short by offering the entry level model with 32GB storage (compared to iPhone 6’s 16GB), 3GB RAM (compared to iPhone 6’s 1GB), front and back facing camera with f/1.9 lens for improved low-light performance. Samsung has tried to match it by introducing the one-touch fingerprint sensor instead of previous generation’s swipe-based fingerprint scanner that didn’t work too well. At the same time, Samsung has also taken things to another level by adding innovative features such as Fast Charging, which allows users to charge their device with up to 4 hours of battery life after only 10 mins of charging and takes half the time to charge compared to the iPhone 6, the 577 pixels-per-inch display and built-in wireless charging that supports both WPC and PMA wireless charging standards.
The Galaxy S6 also comes with faster LPDDR4 RAM, which is supposed to provide 80% more bandwidth compared to LPDDR3 RAM used in the iPhone 6. It also comes with faster and more energy efficient UFS 2.0 flash memory instead of the eMMC memory standard. Compared to the eMMC 5.0 memory currently found in the iPhone 6, UFS 2.0 memory is 1.40 (sequential read speed), 1.66 (sequential write speed), 2.71 (random read speed) and 1.07 (random write speed) times faster.
Interestingly, Samsung has followed Apple’s footsteps, by finally letting go of features such as removable battery, microSD card slot and waterproofing. Samsung has ironically mocked Apple in the past for not having a removable battery. But I think it’s a non-issue, when you consider that Apple has sold so many devices with these limitations. However, these features seem to matter to Android users, so it remains to be seen if Samsung’s decision will backfire, and end up alienating its own user base.
On paper, the Samsung Galaxy S6 looks very impressive.
Samsung has promised that they have also made significant improvements on the software front by bundling a lighter version of TouchWiz and getting rid of almost 40 percent of bloatware. It is going to be tough to beat iOS when it comes to ease of use and tight integration of hardware, software and services.
Galaxy S smartphones have always boasted cameras with higher megapixel count, but the iPhone has consistently outperformed them.
So will it be enough to beat the iPhone 6 when it comes to user experience and real world performance, which matters the most, remains to be seen.
